Good News, Everyone! Inverted Umlaut Is Now Weekly
Got a phone call the other day from Radio CPR’s station manager and they want Inverted Umlaut every week! Starting tonight (and every Monday), the show will broadcast live from 97.5 FM in Mt. Remember when I played Revocation’s cover of Death’s killer “Pull the Plug” on this past week’s podcast? Remember the shitty quality of Decibel’s flexi disc? How it sounded like a needle on paper-thin plastic BECAUSE IT WAS ACTUALLY A NEEDLE ON PAPER-THIN PLASTIC? Yeah, this version’s much better. [MetalSucks]

DOWNLOAD THE PODCAST (192kpbs MP3) * Ulcerate brings next-level death metal like it’s butter on toast. * Decibel’s flexi disc subscription series reminds us that flexi discs will always sound like shit. Always. (Even though Revocation does a fine job covering Death.) * Ilsa releases the first great death/doom album of 2011. D.C. represent. * Oh, I guess there’s a new Krallice...

You Can Now Stream Inverted Umlaut Live!
Tonight 9-11 p.m. ET (and every 2nd and 4th Monday), you can listen to Inverted Umlaut right at this very link. Technology, amiright! One of these days my station host, Radio CPR, will stream all of its shows right from its outdated website (actually, that’s my task… an endless one), but in the meantime, check out our USTREAM channel.

Stream Of The Day: Tarter Lamb II’s latest album, Polyimage of Known Exits, is not really metal. And to be honest, Toby Driver’s progressive rock band Kayo Dot isn’t really metal anymore either. But there’s an icy ambient and metallic nature about Polyimage that’s worth exploring. You can pick up the LP (and pretty metal-looking t-shirt) on the band’s website.

Inverted Umlaut Podcast, No. 14: The Metal I...
DOWNLOAD THE PODCAST (192kpbs MP3) See the full playlist below. In just the two weeks since the Best Metal of 2010 show, I got turned onto records I either completely missed or decided to give a second chance after reading a bunch of other year-end lists. I amassed so much music in that time that another show about 2010’s best metal records was in order. It’s telling that most of...

This nerdy video tour of Colin Marston’s (Krallice, Dysrhythmia, Behold… The Arctopus) recording studio is pretty neat, but two things: What band t-shirt did the editors blur out? Must know. Also, it’s “Gorguts,” Scion A/V, not “Gore Guts.” JEEZ.

Stream This Now: Now I’ve heard some digital-grind, but do I want to live in a grindcore world without guitars? If Greber’s debut is any indication, then, yes, I guess! Featuring Fuck the Facts bassist Marc Bourgon and The Great Sabatini drummer Steve Vargas, Hometown Heroin is a short, ugly rumbling of an album available for a you-name-it price on Bandcamp. A List Of Year-End Metal Lists
Now that 2010 is finally over, we can finally put the final nail in the coffin of year-end lists… at least until December 2011. But I can’t complain too much. I love getting turned onto metal records I missed through these arbitrary top 10 (30, 50… did anyone attempt 100?) lists. I’m already catching up on solid releases from Hail of Bullets, Bloody Sign and...
